Building Dimensions

Some common building requirement reminders (to see all regulations, please refer to the City of Lenox Code of Ordinances):

Accessory Buildings

  • Any accessory building must be in the rear yard
  • Accessory buildings must be seven (7) feet from alley and property lines
  • An accessory building which is not a part of the main building shall not occupy more than thirty percent (30%) of the rear yard
  • All dwellings or other structures, including accessory buildings, shall not cover more than forty percent (40%) of the area of the lot
  • All portable structures more than thirty-two (32) square feet require a building permit

Residential Home

  • No lot shall contain any building used in whole or in part for any purpose unless such lot abuts for at least twenty (20) feet on at least one street, or unless it has an exclusive, unobstructed private easement of access or right-of-way of at least twenty (20) feet wide to a street
  • There shall not be more than one single family dwelling or one nonresidential land use for frontage or easement
  • No building in any district shall exceed the height of three stories without approval of the Board of Adjustment

Attach additional sheets if necessary. Drawing must include a north arrow and abutting streets and alleys, locations of existing buildings (including dimensions and reference to lot lines), and locations of proposed buildings (including dimensions and reference to lot lines).

Example Site Plan

An example site plan shows the front and rear property lines, side streets, and required distances between the proposed house, deck, and garage and each lot line. Site plans shall include distances from all buildings to all lot lines and distances from building to building.
