CITY COUNCIL REGULAR MEETING MINUTES
February 26, 2024 · 5:30 p.m. · City Hall
A regular meeting of the Lenox City Council was called to order by Mayor Douglas on February 26, 2024 at 5:30 p.m. at City Hall with the following council members answering roll call: Peterson, Tull, Hodges and Cruz; Nelson was absent. Staff present was City Clerk, Dawne Bowman and there were no visitors.
Tull made a motion to approve the agenda, seconded by Hodges, all ayes, motion carried. Peterson made a motion to approve 2/12/24 minutes, seconded by Cruz, all ayes, motion carried. Tull made a motion to approve the payment of bills, seconded by Hodges, all ayes, motion carried.
Tull made a motion to approve Resolution 24- 12 Setting Time and Date of 4/8/24 at 5:00 PM for Public Hearing on Property Tax Maximum, seconded by Peterson, all ayes, motion carried.
A discussion was held on the property at 205 South Walnut in which the city has recently acquired through the Abandoned Property process. It was the consensus of the council to have the Fire Dept burn it down and sell the empty lot, if possible.
Tull made a motion to approve Ron Tvinnerem to Golf Board for term of 2 years, expiring 2/2026, seconded by Peterson, all ayes, motion carried.
Bowman discussed the new rates for the Golf Course, as the 2nd Club member prices increased, as well as the green fees and cart rent. The Golf Board also removed the all- day option of cart rent. Hodges added that these rates are still less than other courses. Tull made a motion to approve Resolution 24- 13 Establishing Golf Course Rates, seconded by Cruz, all ayes, motion carried. 2024 Council Committees were approved by all council members.
Bowman discussed Golf Cart Agreement. In the past, the City of Lenox has had an agreement with Wrangler Sales to rent 12 carts from April through September at a price of $600 per cart. Wrangler Sales is no longer renting golf carts. The golf board has been in contact with Midwest Precision who would provide the same contract of 12 carts from April through September at a rate of $950 per cart. The council would like to possibly have another quote for comparison. This will be on the next agenda.
Tull made a motion to approve quote from Simmons Restoration for Library Mold Remediation in the amount of $6,919.10, seconded by Hodges, all ayes, motion carried. This quote is to have all mold, carpet and paneling removed from the entire basement.
Peterson made a motion to approve 2nd Reading Ordinance 395 Electric Transmission Agreement, seconded by Hodges, all ayes, motion carried.
Peterson made a motion to approve Special Events Permit for Pony Express Riders of Iowa, seconded by Tull, all ayes, motion carried. The route will be the same as previous years.
Peterson made a motion to approve purchase of 2023 John Deere Z930 M ZTrack with Rear Discharge for golf course, seconded by Hodges, all ayes, motion carried. The cost of the mower is $13,000 with a $5,000 trade in for our 2018 Z930M for a total cost of $8,000.
Tull motioned to adjourn the meeting, Peterson seconded, all ayes, motion carried. Meeting adjourned at 5:50 PM.
