CITY OF LENOX

A regular meeting of the Lenox City Council was called to order by Mayor Douglas on January 25, 2016 at 5:30 p.m. at City Hall with the following council members answering roll call: Bowman, Vogel and Custer; Adams and Borland were absent. Staff present included City Administrator, Tia Samo and City Clerk, Dawne Bowman. Other visitors were Ben French, Deputy Stenda and Bill Henderson.

Bowman made a motion to approve the agenda, seconded by Vogel, all aye, motion carried. Vogel made a motion to approve 11/11/16 meeting minutes, seconded by Bowman. Bowman made a motion to approve the payment of the bills, seconded by Custer, all aye, motion carried. Custer made a motion to approve December 2015 Clerk Treasurer Report, seconded by Vogel, all aye, motion carried.

Deputy Stenda reported for the Sheriff's Department.

Repairs to City Hall will be on the next agenda.

Bill Henderson was present to discuss the walking trail project and the desire to have the southern portion of the walking trail from the soccer fields to 120th to be maintained by the FFA. The main concern of the Council was making sure it was taken care of and there was appropriate weed control. There will be an agreement drawn up between the City of Lenox and FFA for this project. Custer made a motion to move forward with FFA maintaining the south portion of the walking trail, pending any legal issues, seconded by Bowman, all aye, motion carried.

Samo discussed an enclosed trailer the Neighborhood Center would like to purchase. This trailer would be stored behind the center. The Neighborhood Center received a grant for $500 from the Lenox Trust and the remaining funds needed is $1,850. Custer made a motion to allow the purchase of and enclosed trailer in the amount of $1,850, seconded by Bowman, all aye, motion carried.

Samo discussed a quote from John Deere for a Fairway mower for the golf course. Custer added that the current fairway mower is becoming costly to maintain. The Golf Board would like to purchase a 2011 model with LOST funds in the amount of $25,000. Samo provided the Council with other possible LOST funds that may be used in the coming fiscal year, such as a larger skid loader with some attachments. The end loader is getting older and not as dependable. Bowman added that Public Works are wanting to do their own street work, rather than hiring it out, and this skid loader would be effective in that area. Vogel stated his concern of appropriate bidding procedures and competition with other businesses that do that same line of work. As Custer put everyone back on track, he discussed the current Fairway mower as being a 2003 model with approximately 2700 hours on it versus the 2011 model with 1098 hours on it. Bowman's concern was the plan for the old mower if a new one is purchased. Custer was unsure if there is a use for it or the value of it. It was the consensus of the Council to figure out where the old mower is going and to have a full Council present prior to making any decisions on this. This will be on the next agenda.

Custer made a motion to approve the 30 day resignation from Samo, City Administrator, seconded by Vogel, all aye, motion carried. Samo explained that it was not an easy decision and she would be willing to answer any questions or help the next City Administrator if needed.

Bowman moved to adjourn the meeting, Custer seconded, all ayes, motion carried. Meeting adjourned at 6:15 P.M.
